چکیده

In a study of 102 bronchograms for purposes of comparing the contrast medium Visciodol(R) (a mixture of iodized peanut oil and powdered sulfanilamide) with Iodochlorol(R) (an iodized poppyseed oil), it was observed that Visciodol is more readily administered, produces better bronchograms with less alveolar filling and clears from the lungs far more rapidly and completely than does Iodochlorol. Certain even newer highly promising agents are available but specific results with them are not included with this report. Bronchography is a diagnostic procedure that is contraindicated when the information to be gained does not exceed the probable risk.

DISEASES of the CHEST

Recent advances in bronchography have occurred as a result of new bronchographic media and technique. These advances have improved the quality of bronchography to such an extent that small bronchial lesions are more readily seen. A method of correlating these bronchographic defects with their histological appearance has increased our knowledge of the ignificance of these defects. The first part...

Pulmonary reaction to Hytrast.

Hytrast, a new bronchographic medium of high iodine content, provides excellent radiographic contrast. A number of clinical, pathological, and experimental studies have revealed inflammatory changes after pulmonary retention of Hytrast. Examination of 43 unselected pneumonectomy specimens after Hytrast bronchography revealed typical crystals in 15 instances. The pulmonary reaction included macr...

The bronchographic appearance of "peripheral pooling" attributed to the filling of centrilobular emphysematous spaces.

The bronchographic appearance of clusters of spherical opacities seen at the periphery of the bronchial tree has been termed " peripheral pooling" by Simon and Galbraith (1953). It was a common abnormality in the bronchograms of the advanced cases of chronic bronchitis they studied, being found in 14 of the 21 bronchograms from patients whose standard radiographs suggested emphysema. No precise...

Interpretation of bronchograms and chest radiographs in patients with chronic sputum production.

Bronchograms and plain chest radiographs of 27 patients with chronic sputum production were reported separately in random order and independently by two pulmonary radiologists to establish the diagnostic rate of each investigation and to assess interobserver variation. Both radiologists agreed on the presence of bronchiectasis on bronchography in 19 of 27 (70%) patients and in 94 of 448 (21%) b...
